Direction Lock Button

In Smash 6, when this button is held down, the character will not change direction when walking in the opposite direction (they will be able to walk back facing forward) and the character will be able to perform a backstep by performing a dash input in the direction the character is not facing. If the dash input is held after the backstep, the character will continue to walk backwards. A Backstep does not have intangibility.

Direction Lock also applies in the air, so characters with multiple jumps will not turn around if the button is being held.

Direction Lock will not apply for moves that force the character to turn around.

Notes

This change requires a lot of animation work, due to having to give each character a backstep and back-walk animation. However, it will be a great mechanic as an alternative to turnaround pivots. Might look a bit stylish too.
