Button Mapping Options

The D-pad buttons now support movement and directional input mappings.

  • D-Pad-Up can be mapped to Up
  • D-Pad-Left can be mapped to Left
  • D-Pad-Right can be mapped to Right
  • D-Pad-Down can be mapped to Down

D-Pad movement will have the character walk by default. However, a Run button now can be mapped. When the Run button is held down, D-pad movement will have the character run. If the character is currently walking when the Run button is pushed, they will automatically transition to Running. This includes after landing from a jump. The Run button also effects aerial drift and fast falling, essentially causing the D-pad to behave like a "fully pressed" stick input. The Run button will also apply to Stick Input movement.

The following buttons can now have actions assigned:

  • Plus
  • Minus
  • Left-Stick-Click
  • Right-Stick-Click
  • GL
  • GR
  • Capture
  • C (Chat)
  • GCN Lightly Pressed Trigger
  • GCN Fully Pressed Trigger

These actions can now be mapped to any button:

  • Assist 1 & Tag 1. Tapping the button calls the Assist. Holding the button Tags-In the standby character.
  • Assist 2 & Tag 2. Tapping the button calls the Assist. Holding the button Tags-In the standby character.
  • Pause
  • Overdrive
  • Up-Special
  • Up-Smash
  • Shield + Shield
  • Run
  • Wavedash
  • Nothing (Unassigned)

Notes

The new Button Mapping options available in Smash 6 allow for even more specific button layouts.
